The City of Monroe Commission on Environment and Water Quality DRAFT MINUTES June 8, 2017 7:00 pm

Call to Order: Chairman Egen called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm

Members Present: A roll call of members was taken and a quorum was present.

Chairman Egen mentioned the COTE meeting for May could not occur due to no quorum.

UPDATES

PAC Grant 2016:

Pictures taken for April & May 2017 were reviewed by Commission.

City entered a SEMCOG Photo Contest using several of pictures taken with this grant task.

Approximately $230 remains in the grant that has not been encumbered, alternatives were discussed such that Monroe News is running ads through June 25 were $195 of the remaining funds can be used for an ad for the Field Guides.  Jody Egen will be consulted to develop an ad to run in June.  Remaining funds will be used for cleanup supplies.

Largest Bigmouth Buffalo fish caught near the Ford Plant in the AOC recently.

Monroe County Environmental Fund Grants (2016 & 2017):

2016 & 2017 grant funds have been partially received.  Funds will be pooled to the 2017 season flowering rush spray ($6,000 total).  Currently working through proposal negotiations with the contractor before work can start/be scheduled.  Also, the City will be part of a grant application with the International Wildlife Refuse Alliance for 2018/2019.

PAC Grant 2017:

GLRI is funded-capacity grant has been approved, MDEQ is preparing the award documents/contracts.  Contract will run through June 30, 2018.  Contact with several boy scout troop has been occurring to secure some dates to hold the 2017 river cleanup, possible week day cleanup on a COTE meeting or Boy Scout meeting night to garner the greatest number of help.

Went through a SPAC conference info, location, details, agenda & expenses.

Owens-Contact Senator Zorn about restocking walleye in the river, showed pictures of Ike’s fish caught in May.

Kane-Caught 7 fish downstream of the Waterloo Dam recently.

Finzel-Doster-none

Beaudry– Discussed maintenance on river frontage for homeowners.  Melanie Foose will provide some BMP guidance for owners, LaRoy may present the Field Guide at Kiwanis meeting.

LaRoy-Fish Derby is June 10, City of Masterplan comments are due July 17th +/-, send them to LaRoy or Jeff Green, Planning Director

Egen-Discussed application through website for fish catches within river & by location.  It is intended to be through the City website & developed after the new City website rollout.
