Commission on the Environment and Water Quality MINUTES February 13, 2014 7:00 pm

CALL TO ORDER: Barry LaRoy called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm

Motion to accept the meeting minutes from January 9, 2014 by Bonnie Finzel-Doster; second by Ike Owens.  Motion passed.


1)       Boy Scouts Fishways Cleanup: presentation provided by Mark Locher & Mike Schultz representing Boy Scouts.  Theme is Adopt-A-Fishway.  Coordinate with City river cleanups & scouts~up to 20 troops.  Will provide potential dates in March/April 2014 for preferred August cleanups.

2)       2013 Great Lake Commission (GLC) PAC Support Grant: Interpretive Sign Grant Modification has been approved by the GLC.  Amendment includes adding signage for remaining dams 6, 1, 4, 5 & Waterloo.  Scope includes designing, building & installing before April 30, 2014.  Subcommittee established (Egen, LaRoy, Stefanski & Micka) to work out design details & bring back to COTE March meeting.

3)       Melanie Foose, MDEQ updated COTE: No EPA decision on DNAPL; Richard Micka & Rick Hobrla, MDEQ will be on a panel @ the upcoming AOC conference on March 13, 2014 regarding lessons learned in AOCs; Went over the Office of Great Lakes ppt; 2014 GLC PAC Support Grant RFP is out & due March 28, 2014; Two BUIs may be eligible for removal by the end of 2014.
